Playback and network diagnosis

Stremio buffering without a clear reason?

Buffering can be source-specific or local. A useful diagnosis separates link delivery, network stability, and player behaviour.

Try these first

The fixes that usually work

  1. Play a lower-quality version of the same title. If that is smooth, the file's bitrate is beyond what your device or connection can sustain - cap the quality rather than chasing settings.
  2. Try one different source for the same title. Buffering that follows a single source is a source problem, not a setup problem.
  3. Test once on a mobile hotspot. If it is smooth there, the issue is your network path - DNS, ISP, or VPN - and not Stremio.
  4. On a low-powered device, turn off any setting forcing software decoding, then retest one file.

No sign-up needed for any of these. If none of them change anything, the free diagnostic checks the rest of the chain and tells you which stage is actually failing.

Common causes

What may be happening

  • A slow or unstable source
  • Provider throttling or rate limits
  • DNS or connection instability
  • Playback-device constraints

A better process

Check the chain in order

  1. Confirm whether every stream is affected
  2. Compare another legitimate source
  3. Inspect any HTTP or timeout error
  4. Use a deep scan only for local checks
