Computer playback diagnosis
Stremio works elsewhere but not on your PC?
A cross-device comparison is strong evidence. First separate Stremio Web from the official desktop app, then test the baseline player path before changing add-ons or provider credentials.
Try these first
The fixes that usually work
- Use the official desktop app rather than the browser. Sources needing the local streaming service will never work in the web player.
- Fully quit and reopen the desktop app so the local service restarts with it.
- Play one H.264, AAC, SDR source to establish whether anything plays at all before blaming the add-on.
- Change one computer-only setting at a time - VPN, DNS, firewall, hardware decoding - and retest between each.
No sign-up needed for any of these. If none of them change anything, the free diagnostic checks the rest of the chain and tells you which stage is actually failing.
Common causes
What may be happening
- The browser cannot use a source that needs Stremio's desktop streaming service
- The desktop app or local service needs an update or restart
- The add-on configuration did not sync to the PC
- The source format or bitrate is incompatible
- A PC-only VPN, firewall, DNS, or hardware-decoding setting interferes
A better process
Check the chain in order
- Use the current official desktop app and the same signed-in account
- Run the FixMyStremio baseline probe on the PC
- If it passes, compare the same add-on config and one H.264/AAC/SDR source
- Change one PC-only setting at a time and retest
