Subtitle timing

Stremio subtitles out of sync? Match the release first.

A constant delay can be corrected with timing controls. Subtitle timing that keeps drifting usually means the subtitle track targets a different edit, runtime, or frame rate.

Try these first

The fixes that usually work

  1. If the delay is constant, use the player's subtitle offset control to shift it. That is exactly what it is for.
  2. If the drift grows as the film goes on, the subtitle targets a different release - pick another subtitle instead of adjusting timing.
  3. Match the subtitle to the exact release name and runtime where you can.
  4. Prefer an embedded subtitle track when the source has one.

No sign-up needed for any of these. If none of them change anything, the free diagnostic checks the rest of the chain and tells you which stage is actually failing.

Common causes

What may be happening

  • The subtitle belongs to a different release
  • The subtitle has a constant delay
  • The video and subtitle runtimes differ
  • The frame rate or edit is different

A better process

Check the chain in order

  1. Prefer an embedded subtitle
  2. Match the exact release and runtime
  3. Use timing controls only for a constant offset
  4. Choose another subtitle if the timing drifts
